Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow moong dal
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1-inch ginger, grated
- 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 bay leaf, broken
- 2 green chilies, slit
- 4 sprigs fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
- Lemon juice, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Instructions:
-
Cook the Dal:
Wash the moong dal thoroughly. In a pressure cooker, add the dal, 2-1/2 cups of water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for about 3 whistles on medium heat. Turn off the heat and let the pressure release naturally. Once done, give it a good stir to ensure the dal is smooth and well-cooked. -
Prepare the Tempering (Tadka):
Heat ghee in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them crackle. Once they start to splutter, add grated ginger, slit green chilies, and the bay leaf. Sauté for 30 seconds, allowing the flavors to blend. -
Combine Tadka with Dal:
Pour the tempering into the cooked dal and stir well. Let the dal simmer for 5-6 minutes to absorb the flavors of the tadka. -
Finish the Dal:
Once the dal is well-mixed, add butter and let it melt into the dal. Stir again and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Now add lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves. Stir and remove from heat. -
Serve:
Serve your Dal Tadka hot with steamed basmati rice, roti, or naan. It pairs wonderfully with side dishes like Paneer Butter Masala, Lauki Raita, or Jeera Rice.
Enjoy this comforting, flavorful, and nutritious Dal Tadka at your lunch table!
