4 Yellow plums
400g Plums

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Rice Mixture: Place 1 liter of milk in a saucepan and simmer over low heat for five minutes.
  2. Rinse the Rice: Meanwhile, rinse the long-grain white rice until the water runs clean.
  3. Cook the Rice: Add the rinsed rice, lemon zest, and cinnamon stick to the simmering milk. Cook for 15 minutes or until the rice is tender.
  4. Prepare the Custard: In a separate small saucepan, lightly whisk the egg yolks. Then whisk in the 2 cups of cold milk and cornflour. Simmer over low heat until thickened.
  5. Combine Ingredients: Add the custard mixture, along with vanilla essence and sugar, to the rice and milk mixture. Simmer, stirring, for an additional five minutes.
  6. Cool the Mixture: Remove the pan from heat and set aside to cool.
  7. Prepare the Plums: To cook the plums, place 200ml of water, the vanilla pod, and four tablespoons of sugar in a pan. Simmer, swirling the pan occasionally, until the sugar has dissolved.
  8. Prepare the Plums (cont.): Meanwhile, cut the yellow plums in half, remove the stones, and add them to the sugar water. Cover and cook for three minutes.

  10. Final Touch: Remove the cinnamon stick from the rice mixture and pour it into one large or four to six individual bowls.
