Italian Lasagna Recipe ๐Ÿ

Description: This cherished recipe was passed down to my family by an Italian Grandma who used to care for my older brother while my dad was in law school. Ingredients:

  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 – 2 tsp pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 can whole tomatoes
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup monterey jack cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Lasagne noodles

Instructions:

Step Description
1 Cook lasagne noodles according to package instructions.
2 While noodles are cooking, brown the ground beef with onion and garlic in oil.
3 Drain excess fat from beef mixture.
4 Stir in sugar, pepper, salt, whole tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Allow to simmer for 10 minutes.
5 Slice both types of cheese.
6 In a separate bowl, mix oregano and basil together.
7 Preheat oven to 375ยฐF (190ยฐC).
8 In a 9×13-inch baking dish, layer lasagne noodles, cheese, sauce, and spices. Repeat for 2 or 3 layers, depending on the depth of your dish.
9 Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bubbly.
10 Allow the lasagna to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow it to firm up slightly.
11 Leftovers can be frozen and reheated later for another meal. Simply bake from frozen for approximately one hour.
