Ingredients:
- 1 cup wheat germ
- 1 cup dried currants (or substitute with dried cranberries)
- 3 cups rolled oats
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup chopped filberts (hazelnuts)
- 2/3 cup chopped almonds
- 3/4 cup chopped dried apricots
- Optional: milk or cream for serving, fresh fruit for topping

- Spread the filberts on a rimmed baking sheet, and the almonds on another.
- Bake in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 5-8 minutes, or until very lightly browned, shaking the pans occasionally.

- Let the nuts cool.
- Rub filberts in your hands to loosen as much of the brown exterior as possible, then blow or fan off the chaff.
- Coarsely chop filberts and almonds. It’s best to use a hand chopper rather than a food processor to avoid turning the nuts into butter.

- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped nuts with oats, wheat germ, dried currants, chopped dried apricots, and brown sugar.
- Blend everything together until well combined.
