Fig Compote Recipe

Ingredients:
- 1 orange, peeled and cut into sections
- 1/2 cup black mission figs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup red wine
- 3 sprigs fresh thyme
- 1 cup water

Prepare the Orange:
Peel the orange and cut it into sections over a bowl. Squeeze the sections to release the juice. Set aside. -
Combine Ingredients:
In a medium saucepan, combine the squeezed orange sections (with juice), black mission figs, sugar, red wine, fresh thyme sprigs, and water. -
Infuse Flavors:
Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. -
Cook the Compote:
Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer uncovered for about 15 minutes, or until most of the liquid has evaporated. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking. -
Finish and Cool:
Remove and discard the thyme sprigs. Allow the fig compote to cool to room temperature. -
Serve or Store:
Transfer the cooled fig compote to a jar or airtight container. It can be served immediately or stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
