Ingredients:

Fresh Ginger (paste) 1 tsp
Garlic (paste) 3 cloves
Salt To taste
Water 1 2/3 cups
Lime 1

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:

    • Wash the chana dal thoroughly and soak it in water for at least 2 hours to soften.
  2. Prepare Ingredients:

    • Grate the onions.
    • Chop the fresh coriander.
    • Make a paste of ginger and garlic.
    • Chop the tomatoes into small pieces.
    • Cut the paneer into bite-sized cubes and fry until golden brown. Set aside.
  3. Cooking:

    • Heat oil in a pressure cooker over medium heat.
    • Fry the grated onions until they turn light brown.
    • Add the ginger-garlic paste, cinnamon sticks, black cardamom pods, cloves, bay leaves, and red chili. Sauté until aromatic.
    • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
    • Stir in the soaked chana dal, salt, chili powder, and turmeric powder. Cook for about 7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Pressure Cooking:

    • Pour 1 2/3 cups of water into the cooker and mix well.
    • Close the pressure cooker lid securely and place it on high heat until it reaches full cooking pressure.
    • Once at full pressure, reduce the heat to medium and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
    • Allow the pressure cooker to cool down naturally before opening it.
  5. Final Touch:

    • Once the pressure cooker is cooled, carefully open it.
    • Add the lightly fried paneer cubes to the cooked dal mixture.
    • Simmer for another 2 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
    • Garnish the dish with fresh coriander leaves and a squeeze of lime juice for an extra burst of freshness.
  6. Serving:

    • Serve the Fried Chana Dal with Paneer hot with rice or roti for a satisfying meal experience.
