Prepare the Pasta:
Start by bringing a large pot of water to a boil and add a pinch of salt for seasoning. Once the water is boiling, add the whole grain penne rigate and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. -

While the pasta is cooking, prepare the pesto. Take the fresh basil leaves and remove them from the stems. In a food processor or using an immersion blender, combine the basil, sliced almonds, garlic, and grated Pecorino Romano.
