Simple and Quick Tuna Puff Pastry

Ingredients

  • Puff Pastry (store-bought or homemade) – enough for your needs
  • 1 can of tuna (drained of water/oil)
  • 1 hard-boiled egg (finely chopped)
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 egg yolk (for brushing)
  • 1 egg white (for sealing)
  • Salt, sugar, and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Puff Pastry: Cut the puff pastry into squares measuring about 10×10 cm, or to your preferred size, and set them aside.

  2. Sauté the Aromatics: In a skillet, sauté the minced garlic and chopped onion until they are soft and translucent, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.

  3. Combine the Filling: Add the drained tuna to the skillet, seasoning with salt, sugar, and pepper. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed. Allow the mixture to cool slightly.

  4. Mix in the Creaminess: In a bowl, combine the tuna mixture with the mayonnaise and chopped hard-boiled egg, mixing until everything is well incorporated. Set aside.

  5. Assemble the Pastries: Take a puff pastry square and brush the edges with egg white to help seal the pastry. Place a generous spoonful of the tuna filling in the center. Fold the pastry over and press the edges firmly with a fork to secure them.

  6. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).

  7. Brush and Bake: Brush the tops of the pastries with the egg yolk for a glossy finish. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Baking times may vary, so keep an eye on them to achieve your desired level of crispiness.
