Simple Beef Yakiniku Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of beef, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 shallots, finely chopped
  • 5 green chilies, sliced diagonally
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 small piece of ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 cup hot water (medium-sized cup)
  • Oyster sauce, to taste
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:
    Start by washing the beef thoroughly. Slice it thinly lengthwise for even cooking. To make the beef more tender, soak it in black tea for 30 minutes before cooking.

  2. Prepare the Vegetables:
    Finely chop the shallots and mince the garlic. Slice the green chilies diagonally and slice the small onion. Grate or finely chop the ginger.

  3. Cooking:
    Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, chopped shallots, sliced green chilies, and ginger to the pan. Sauté until fragrant.

  4. Add the Beef:
    Once the aromatic vegetables are ready, add the thinly sliced beef to the pan. Stir well to ensure the beef is evenly cooked.

  5. Add Water and Seasonings:
    Pour in the hot water and let the mixture simmer. Allow the liquid to reduce to about one-fourth of the pan, which should take approximately 3 minutes.

  6. Flavoring:
    Stir in the sweet soy sauce and oyster sauce. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix well to combine all the flavors.

  7. Add Onion:
    Finally, add the sliced onion to the pan. Stir briefly to mix. Turn off the heat while the onion remains slightly crisp for added texture and flavor.

  8. Serve:
    Transfer the beef yakiniku to a serving dish. Enjoy while it’s still hot, with the crispy onions adding a delightful crunch.
