Ingredients:

  • 6 cups puffed rice (Murmura)
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 10 curry leaves (broken)
  • 1 inch ginger (grated)
  • 1/4 cup peanuts
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 1/4 cup green peas (steamed)
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tomato (chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh coriander (chopped)
  • Salt to taste

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Start by washing the puffed rice under running water. This will soften the rice. Squeeze out the excess water and set it aside.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Let them splutter for about 10 seconds.
  3. Add cumin seeds and peanuts to the pan. Roast the peanuts until they turn golden brown.
  4. Now, add grated ginger, chopped onions, green chilies, curry leaves, and salt. Stir and cook for about 20 seconds.
  5. Add the steamed green peas, turmeric powder, and chopped tomato. Cook until the tomatoes soften.
  6. Finally, add the soaked puffed rice, fresh coriander, lemon juice, and mix well. Adjust the salt and cook for a minute.
  7. Serve hot, ideally with a fruit bowl and a cup of masala chai for a complete breakfast.

Enjoy your Puffed Rice Upma as a tasty and nutritious start to your day!
