Beef Teriyaki: A Simple and Savory Delight

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef sirloin, sliced thinly
  • 1 large onion, cut in half and thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 100 ml water
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, for sautéing

Marinade:

  • 5 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Slice the beef sirloin into thin, long strips. Use a meat mallet to gently pound both sides of the beef slices. This tenderizes the meat and ensures it cooks evenly. Just a few light taps on each side will do the trick.

  2. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, salt, and ground black pepper. Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. For best results, marinate overnight.

  3. Sauté the Aromatics: Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the crushed garlic and sliced onion. Sauté until fragrant and the onions are softened and translucent.

  4. Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Stir-fry until the beef starts to brown and is no longer pink.

  5. Simmer: Pour in the 100 ml of water. If you prefer a thicker sauce, you can adjust the amount of water as needed. Cover the skillet and let it simmer, occasionally stirring, until the beef is tender and cooked through.

  6. Final Touches: Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Once the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened to your liking, remove from heat.

  7. Serve: Serve your delicious beef teriyaki hot, garnished with your favorite sides or steamed rice.
