Rajasthani Hare Chane Ka Halwa Recipe (Green Chickpea Halwa)

Description:
Rajasthani Hare Chane Ka Halwa is a delightful winter dessert, made with green chickpeas, which are packed with fiber, vitamins A and C. This nutritious halwa is not only a favorite in Rajasthan but also an essential dish during festivals and weddings. The unique blend of flavors from green chickpeas, ghee, and dry fruits makes it a must-try treat. It is perfect for serving after a meal like Dal Baati, a traditional Rajasthani dish.

Cuisine: Rajasthani
Course: Dessert
Diet: Vegetarian

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Green chickpeas (Hare Chane) 1 cup (pureed)
Sugar (Shakkar) 1 cup
Ghee 1/4 cup
Cardamom (Elaichi) 2 pods (powdered)
Ghee (for garnish) 1 teaspoon
Pistachios (Pista) 6 (chopped)
Raisins (Kismis) 10

Preparation Time:

5 minutes

Cooking Time:

45 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Green Chickpeas:
Start by heating 1/4 cup ghee in a pan. Once the ghee is hot, add the pureed green chickpeas to the pan and cook them for about 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. Add Sugar and Cardamom:
Once the green chickpeas are cooked, add 1 cup of sugar and the powdered cardamom to the pan. Stir the mixture well until the sugar dissolves completely and blends with the chickpeas. Be careful to keep stirring to prevent the halwa from forming lumps.

  3. Cook and Combine:
Continue cooking the halwa on low heat for another 5 minutes until the mixture thickens and the ghee starts to separate from the halwa. Turn off the heat once the halwa is cooked.

  4. Prepare Garnish:
In a separate small pan, heat a teaspoon of ghee. Add the chopped pistachios and raisins to the pan and sauté them for about 15 seconds, just enough to bring out the flavors and soften them.

  5. Combine and Serve:
Add the sautéed dry fruits to the cooked halwa and mix well. Your Rajasthani Hare Chane Ka Halwa is now ready to serve! This dish is traditionally served after meals like Dal Baati, as a sweet treat.

Serving Suggestions:

Serve the Rajasthani Hare Chane Ka Halwa hot, garnished with the pistachios and raisins. It makes a wonderful dessert for any festive occasion or a cozy winter evening with family and friends.
