Kaya Tholi Thoran is a delightful South Indian dish made with raw banana peel and coconut, perfect as a side dish for your meal. The combination of spices and coconut adds a unique flavor that pairs well with rice and sambar.
Ingredients:
- Peel of 2 raw bananas
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 cups water
- Salt, to taste
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 4 green chilies
- 6 small onions
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
- 2 dried red chilies
- 8 curry leaves

Instructions:
- Start by peeling the raw bananas and chopping the peel into small pieces.
- In a saucepan, add the raw banana peel pieces along with turmeric powder and 2 cups of water. Cook the mixture until the peel becomes soft.
- For the masala, grind together the grated coconut, garlic, cumin seeds, green chilies, and small onions in a mixer until smooth.
- Heat oil in a small pan and add mustard seeds. Allow them to splutter for 10 seconds.
- Add curry leaves and dried red chilies, and cook for another 10 seconds.
- Add the ground coconut masala to the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- Now add the cooked raw banana peel to the pan and mix well. Cook for another 1-2 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Serve the Kaya Tholi Thoran hot with Kirai Sambar and rice for a wholesome South Indian lunch.
