Mogre Ka Sharbat (Fresh Jasmine Drink) Recipe: A Refreshing Indian Summer Drink

Overview:

Mogre Ka Sharbat is a traditional Indian drink, known for its cooling and soothing properties. Made with fresh jasmine buds, saffron, and cardamom, this delightful beverage offers a refreshing escape from the heat, leaving you feeling revitalized during the warm summer months. The delicate floral notes of jasmine infuse the syrup, making this sharbat a unique and aromatic treat. Perfect for any summer gathering, it pairs beautifully with light snacks and adds a touch of elegance to any occasion.

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Sugar 1-1/2 cup
Water 3/4 cup
Saffron strands A few
Cardamom powder (Elaichi) 1/4 teaspoon
Fresh jasmine buds 3/4 cup
Milk 1 teaspoon

Preparation Time:

480 minutes (8 hours)

Cooking Time:

15 minutes

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Sugar Syrup:

    • Start by placing a saucepan on medium heat. Add 1-1/2 cups of sugar and 3/4 cup of water into the saucepan and allow the mixture to come to a rolling boil.
    • Once boiling, lower the heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of milk. As the milk heats, you’ll notice impurities from the sugar rising to the surface. Using a tea strainer, carefully skim off the impurities and discard them in a small bowl placed nearby.
  2. Infuse the Aromatics:

    • With the impurities removed, add 1/4 teaspoon of cardamom powder, a few saffron strands, and 3/4 cup of fresh jasmine buds to the sugar syrup.
    • Bring the mixture back to a rolling boil, and once it reaches that stage, turn off the heat.
  3. Allow the Sharbat to Infuse:

    • Let the syrup cool to room temperature. Once cooled, cover the pan with a lid and set it aside for 24 hours. This will allow the fresh jasmine buds to infuse their fragrance and flavor into the syrup.
  4. Strain and Store:

    • After 24 hours, strain the syrup to remove the jasmine buds. Discard the buds and transfer the concentrated syrup into a bottle or jar.
    • Store the bottle in the refrigerator, where it can be kept for up to a month.
  5. Serving the Mogre Ka Sharbat:

    • To serve, pour about 1 tablespoon of the concentrated Mogre Ka Sharbat into a glass.
    • Add a few ice cubes, then top with 200 ml of chilled water.
    • Stir gently, and your refreshing Mogre Ka Sharbat is now ready to enjoy!
