Homemade Beef Broth Recipe

Creating a rich, flavorful homemade beef broth from scratch can elevate any dish, providing a delicious and nutritious base for soups, stews, and sauces. This recipe yields a savory broth infused with aromatic vegetables and spices, perfect for enhancing your culinary creations. Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients

  • 1/4 kg beef (cut into pieces)
  • 1.5 liters water
  • 1 onion (roughly chopped)
  • 1 piece of ginger (smashed)
  • 3 cloves garlic (smashed)
  • 1 shallot (smashed)
  • 3 medium carrots (coarsely chopped)
  • 2 bay leaves
  • A small handful of green onions (chopped)
  • A pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Begin by thoroughly cleaning all the ingredients. Cut the beef into manageable pieces and set aside.

  2. Cooking the Beef:
Place the beef pieces in a large pot and cover with 1.5 liters of water. Bring the water to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer gently to allow the beef to cook slowly.

  3. Adding Aromatics:
Once the beef has started to cook, add the onion, ginger, garlic, shallot, carrots, bay leaves, and a pinch of nutmeg. Stir gently to combine the ingredients.

  4. Simmering:
Continue to simmer the mixture over low heat until the beef is very tender. This process can take several hours, so be patient and keep the heat low to ensure a clear, rich broth.

  5. Strain and Store:
Once the beef is tender, carefully strain the broth to remove the solid ingredients. Transfer the liquid into glass bottles or jars, allowing it to cool before sealing. From 1.5 liters of water, you should obtain approximately 400 ml of flavorful broth.

  6. Utilizing the Beef:
The tender beef that remains can be blended until smooth and used as an addition to baby food or other recipes. You can portion this blended beef into small containers for convenient use.

Enjoy this homemade beef broth as a base for soups, stews, or simply as a warm, comforting drink. It’s a versatile and wholesome addition to your culinary repertoire!
