Cuisine: North Indian
Course: Dessert
Diet: Vegetarian
Ingredients:
- 4 slices Whole Wheat Brown Bread (cut into round shapes)
- 1/4 cup Sugar
- 3/4 cup Water
- Ghee (for deep frying)
- 2 cups Milk
- 1/4 cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
- 1 tablespoon Thandai Masala
- Sliced Whole Almonds (Badam)
- Sliced Pistachios
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Instructions:
- Prepare the Bread: Start by cutting the whole wheat bread slices into round shapes using a cookie cutter.
- Fry the Bread: Heat ghee in a wide pan and shallow fry the bread pieces for about 1 minute, or until they turn light brown and crisp. Drain the fried pieces on absorbent paper towels to remove excess ghee.
- Prepare Sugar Syrup: In a small pan, combine sugar and water. Let it boil for 4-5 minutes, then make a one-string chasni (syrup) and set it aside.
- Make the Thandai Milk: In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the milk and bring it to a boil. Add the sweetened condensed milk and simmer for 8-10 minutes while stirring continuously. Adjust the sugar to your taste. Turn off the heat and let the milk cool down. Once cooled, add the Thandai masala and stir well to mix.
- Assemble the Dish: Dip each fried bread piece into the sugar syrup (chasni) and immediately place them on a serving plate.
- Serve: Pour the chilled Thandai milk over the soaked bread pieces. Garnish with thin slices of almonds and pistachios for an extra crunch.
- Enjoy: Serve this decadent dessert as a sweet ending to a meal, especially during festive times like Holi.
A royal treat that brings together the rich flavors of Thandai with the comforting texture of Shahi Tukda!
