Ingredients

2 Butter beans
2 Lima beans
4 Bacon
1 Onion
3-4 White vinegar
1/2 Brown sugar
1 Dry mustard

Instructions

  1. Fry Bacon: In a large, deep skillet, fry the bacon until crisp. DO NOT DRAIN the bacon grease.

  2. Add Onions and Seasonings: To the skillet, add onions, white vinegar, brown sugar, dry mustard, and garlic powder. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Simmer: Allow the mixture to simmer for 20-25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  4. Prepare Beans: Meanwhile, mix all the beans together in a large mixing bowl.

  5. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  6. Assemble: Use a large throwaway aluminum roaster pan, preferably turkey-sized and either oval or rectangle-shaped, that you can also bake in and then throw away. Pour the hot bacon mixture over the beans in the pan and mix well to ensure all beans are coated.

  7. Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 70-80 minutes, or until the beans are tender and the flavors are well combined.

  8. Serve: Once baked, serve hot as a delicious side dish.
