Beef and Broccoli Yakisoba

Ingredients

  • 200 grams of egg noodles (dried mie telur, boiled and drained)
  • 200 grams of sirloin or chuck beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Shaoxing wine (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 head of broccoli, cut into florets
  • 2-3 slices of ginger
  • 4 cloves of garlic, thinly sliced
  • Optional: 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • Cooking oil (as needed)
  • For the Yakisoba Sauce:
    • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
    • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (adjust to taste)
    • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    • Black pepper (to taste)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 teaspoon of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of Shaoxing wine. Let it marinate for a few minutes. If you prefer not to use Shaoxing wine, you can skip it.

  2. Prepare the Aromatics: Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced garlic, ginger, and onion (if using). Sauté until fragrant and the garlic starts to turn golden.

  3. Cook the Broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the pan. Stir-fry for a couple of minutes until the broccoli begins to brighten and soften.

  4. Add the Beef: Increase the heat to high and add the marinated beef to the pan. Stir-fry until the beef is just cooked through and slightly browned, about 2-3 minutes.

  5. Combine with Noodles: Add the boiled and drained egg noodles to the pan. Pour in the yakisoba sauce mixture, stirring continuously to ensure that everything is well-coated and the flavors are evenly distributed.

  6. Final Adjustments: Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to fully absorb into the noodles and beef. Taste and adjust seasoning with additional soy sauce or black pepper if needed.

  7. Serve: Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove from heat. Serve immediately, optionally garnished with pickled ginger if desired.
