Beef Bistik Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kg (1 lb) beef, cut into strips
- 1/2 kg (1 lb) potatoes, cut as desired
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 shallots, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce (preferably Crane brand)
- 2 teaspoons oyster sauce
- Salt to taste
- Ground black pepper to taste
- 5 large red chilies, sliced lengthwise
- Beef broth (reserved from boiling the meat)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Beef:
Begin by boiling the beef in water until tender. Once the beef is cooked through and tender, remove it from the pot and set aside. Reserve the beef broth for later use. -
Sauté the Aromatics:
In a large skillet or wok, heat a bit of oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, finely chopped shallots, and sliced onion. Sauté until fragrant and the onions become translucent. -
Combine Ingredients:
Add the tender beef strips to the skillet along with the potatoes. Stir well to combine. If you prefer a slightly saucy dish, you can add a bit of the reserved beef broth to the skillet. -
Season and Simmer:
Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, salt, and ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly to ensure all the ingredients are well-coated with the seasonings. Let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. -
Adjust Flavor:
Taste the dish and adjust seasoning if necessary. Add the chopped tomato and sliced chilies, stirring to incorporate them evenly. Continue cooking until the potatoes are tender and the tomatoes have infused their flavor into the dish. -
Serve:
Once the potatoes are cooked through and the tomatoes have softened, remove the skillet from heat. Transfer the beef bistik to a serving platter and enjoy!
This hearty dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or warm crusty bread.
