  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
  • 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 8 oz fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • Parmesan cheese, for topping

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Base:

    • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, bay leaves, dried oregano, dried basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
    • Brown the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, until it is fully cooked and the onions are translucent.
  2. Add Tomato Products:

    • Once the beef is browned, add the tomato paste, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes to the pot.
    • Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  3. Simmer:

    • Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat.
    • Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot.
    • Allow the sauce to simmer gently for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

    • While the sauce is simmering, cook your spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente.
    • Drain the spaghetti and set aside.
  5. Sautee Mushrooms:

    • In a separate skillet, heat a bit of olive oil over medium heat.
    • Add the sliced mushrooms and sautΓ© until they are golden brown and tender, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Serve:

    • To serve, spoon the spaghetti onto plates or into bowls.
    • Ladle the homemade spaghetti sauce generously over the spaghetti.
    • Top each serving with a spoonful of sautΓ©ed mushrooms.
