Beef Steak with Mushroom Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces of beef steak (purchased from a hypermarket)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Mushroom Sauce:

  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Sliced champignon mushrooms (quantity as desired)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 100 ml UHT milk
  • 300 ml beef broth (or water with beef bouillon powder)
  • 1 tablespoon grated cheese (cheddar recommended)
  • Sugar, salt, and ground black pepper, to taste

For the Sides:

  • 3 potatoes, cut into wedges and fried
  • Mixed vegetables (such as carrots, corn, and green beans)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef Steak:

    • Season each steak with salt and black pepper. Allow it to rest for a few minutes to absorb the seasoning.
    • Heat a skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook the steak on each side to your preferred level of doneness (e.g., rare, medium, well-done). For best results, use a non-stick or cast-iron pan for a nice sear.
  2. Make the Mushroom Sauce:

    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the finely chopped garlic and onion, and sauté until they become soft and fragrant.
    • Add the sliced champignon mushrooms to the pan. Sauté for a few minutes until the mushrooms are tender and slightly golden.
    • Stir in the flour and cook for a couple of minutes until it forms a paste and the raw flour smell dissipates.
    • Gradually pour in the milk and beef broth, stirring constantly to ensure a smooth sauce. Continue to stir until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.
    • Add the grated cheese, stirring until the cheese is fully melted and incorporated into the sauce. Season with sugar, salt, and ground black pepper to taste. Let the sauce simmer until it starts to bubble, then remove from heat.
  3. Prepare the Sides:

    • For the potatoes, cut them into wedges and fry them until golden and crispy. Set aside.
    • In a separate pan, lightly sauté the mixed vegetables with a bit of butter or margarine. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  4. Assemble the Dish:

    • Place the cooked beef steak on serving plates. Spoon the mushroom sauce generously over the top of each steak.
    • Arrange the fried potato wedges and sautéed vegetables alongside the steak.
    • Serve immediately, enjoying a hearty meal with savory mushroom sauce, crispy potatoes, and vibrant vegetables.
