Beef Teriyaki

This flavorful Beef Teriyaki recipe combines tender beef with aromatic spices and a savory-sweet teriyaki sauce, offering a delightful blend of textures and tastes. Perfect for a quick dinner or a special occasion, this dish is both satisfying and easy to prepare.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef, sliced to your preference
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 pieces galangal, smashed
  • 3 bay leaves
  • Palm sugar (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • Water (as needed)
  • Butter (for sautรฉing)

For the spice paste:

  • 10 red shallots
  • 5 garlic cloves
  • 3 red bird’s eye chilies
  • 1 teaspoon white pepper
  • 2 pieces ginger

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Slice the beef into pieces according to your preference and wash it thoroughly.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: Blend the red shallots, garlic cloves, red bird’s eye chilies, white pepper, and ginger into a smooth paste.

  3. Sautรฉ the Aromatics: Heat some butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the spice paste, bay leaves, and smashed galangal. Sautรฉ until fragrant.

  4. Cook the Beef: Add the beef slices to the pan and stir well to combine with the spices. Pour in the teriyaki sauce, sesame oil, fish sauce, and sweet soy sauce. Season with salt and palm sugar to taste. Add enough water to cover the beef if necessary.

  5. Simmer: Cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded together.

  6. Add Onion: Stir in the thinly sliced onion and cook for a few more minutes until the onion softens.

  7. Finish and Serve: Turn off the heat and let the dish rest for a moment before serving.
