Beef Teriyaki Recipe
Ingredients:
- 500 grams of beef (or chicken as a 1:1 substitute)
- 1 onion (use the same weight as the beef)
- 50 grams of garlic
- 10 grams of red chili (seedless)
- Fresh parsley (for garnish)
- Instant teriyaki sauce (enough to coat the beef)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Roux:
- 50 grams of flour
- 50 grams of butter (melted)
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Roux:
- In a skillet, melt 50 grams of butter over medium heat.
- Add 50 grams of flour to the melted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture reaches a rich, brown color, known as brown roux. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
-
Prepare the Beef:
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
- Place the sliced beef in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
-
Marinate the Beef:
- Pour enough instant teriyaki sauce over the beef to coat it well. The beef should be slightly wet and there should be some sauce in the bowl.
- Allow the beef to marinate for at least 1 hour to absorb the flavors. For best results, marinate overnight.
-
Cook the Beef:
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add the chopped garlic and onion. Sauté until they become fragrant and translucent.
- Add the prepared roux to the pan and mix well with the garlic and onion.
- Incorporate the marinated beef into the pan. Stir well to ensure that the beef is fully coated with the roux mixture.
- Cook until the beef is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened to a consistency that is neither too thick like porridge nor too thin like a stew. Adjust the thickness by cooking it longer or adding a little water if needed.
-
Season and Serve:
- Taste the dish and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or teriyaki sauce if needed.
- Garnish with freshly chopped red chili and parsley.
- Serve hot with steamed rice or your preferred side dish.
Enjoy your homemade Beef Teriyaki, a delightful blend of savory flavors and satisfying textures!
