Beef Teriyaki Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of beef (or chicken as a 1:1 substitute)
  • 1 onion (use the same weight as the beef)
  • 50 grams of garlic
  • 10 grams of red chili (seedless)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)
  • Instant teriyaki sauce (enough to coat the beef)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Roux:
    • 50 grams of flour
    • 50 grams of butter (melted)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Roux:

    • In a skillet, melt 50 grams of butter over medium heat.
    • Add 50 grams of flour to the melted butter. Stir continuously until the mixture reaches a rich, brown color, known as brown roux. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Beef:

    • Slice the beef thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness.
    • Place the sliced beef in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.
  3. Marinate the Beef:

    • Pour enough instant teriyaki sauce over the beef to coat it well. The beef should be slightly wet and there should be some sauce in the bowl.
    • Allow the beef to marinate for at least 1 hour to absorb the flavors. For best results, marinate overnight.
  4. Cook the Beef:

    • Heat a pan over medium heat and add the chopped garlic and onion. Sauté until they become fragrant and translucent.
    • Add the prepared roux to the pan and mix well with the garlic and onion.
    • Incorporate the marinated beef into the pan. Stir well to ensure that the beef is fully coated with the roux mixture.
    • Cook until the beef is fully cooked and the sauce has thickened to a consistency that is neither too thick like porridge nor too thin like a stew. Adjust the thickness by cooking it longer or adding a little water if needed.
  5. Season and Serve:

    • Taste the dish and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or teriyaki sauce if needed.
    • Garnish with freshly chopped red chili and parsley.
    • Serve hot with steamed rice or your preferred side dish.

Enjoy your homemade Beef Teriyaki, a delightful blend of savory flavors and satisfying textures!
