Beef Teriyaki with Hokben-Style Salad

Ingredients

For the Beef Teriyaki:

  • 500 grams beef, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Cooking oil, as needed
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste

For the Marinade:

  • 4 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce (optional, for a spicy kick)
  • Ground black pepper, to taste

For the Hokben-Style Salad:

  • 1 large carrot, grated
  • 1/4 cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1/2 radish, grated
  • Vinegar, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Mayonnaise, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef:

    • Rinse the beef thoroughly and slice it into thin strips. In a bowl, combine the teriyaki sauce, sweet soy sauce, oyster sauce, tomato sauce, chili sauce (if using), and ground black pepper. Mix well.
    • Place the beef strips in the marinade, ensuring they are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for 15-30 minutes to allow the flavors to infuse.
  2. Cook the Beef:

    • Heat a small amount of cooking oil in a skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté until fragrant.
    • Add the marinated beef to the skillet, cooking until it changes color and is cooked through.
    • Incorporate the chopped onion and diced bell pepper, stirring frequently until the vegetables are slightly softened.
    • Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt, sugar, and ground black pepper if necessary.
  3. Prepare the Hokben-Style Salad:

    • Wash and grate the carrot, shred the cabbage, and grate the radish. In a bowl, mix these vegetables together.
    • Prepare a soaking solution with vinegar, water, salt, and sugar. Submerge the grated vegetables in this mixture and let them sit for about 30 minutes.
    • Drain the vegetables thoroughly and set aside.
  4. Serve:

    • Plate the beef teriyaki alongside the Hokben-style salad. Garnish with a dollop of mayonnaise on the side if desired. Enjoy your flavorful meal!

This Beef Teriyaki paired with a refreshing Hokben-style salad brings a delightful balance of savory and tangy flavors, perfect for a hearty and satisfying meal.
