Black Pepper Beef (Sapi Lada Hitam)
Ingredients:
- 250 grams beef, thinly sliced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce (kecap asin)
- Black pepper, to taste
- White pepper, to taste
- Red and green bell peppers (or red and green chilies), sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter for sautéing
- Water, as needed
Instructions:
-
Marinate the Beef:
Begin by thinly slicing the beef and washing it thoroughly. In a bowl, combine the sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and a generous amount of black pepper. Add the beef slices, ensuring they are well-coated with the marinade. Cover and place in the freezer for approximately one hour to allow the flavors to infuse. -
Prepare the Aromatics:
In a large skillet or wok, heat the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until it becomes fragrant and translucent. Introduce the minced garlic and continue to cook until it releases its aromatic scent. -
Cook the Beef:
Add the marinated beef along with the marinade to the skillet. Stir-fry briefly until the beef begins to change color. Pour in enough water to cover the meat partially. Stir well and allow the mixture to simmer. -
Season and Simmer:
Stir in the sugar and salt, adjusting the seasoning to your taste. Sprinkle in additional black and white pepper as desired. Continue to cook, letting the sauce reduce and thicken, and ensuring the beef is thoroughly cooked. -
Add Vegetables:
Finally, add the sliced red and green bell peppers (or chilies) to the skillet. Cook for an additional 2 minutes, just until the peppers are slightly tender but still crisp. -
Serve:
Remove from heat and transfer to a serving dish. Enjoy your Black Pepper Beef with steamed rice or your favorite side dish.
This delightful recipe combines the rich flavors of beef with the bold kick of black pepper, enhanced by a savory blend of soy and oyster sauces. Perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.
