Indulge in a tantalizing dish of Black Pepper Beef, a flavorful Indonesian-inspired stir-fry that combines tender slices of beef with a savory sauce, fresh vegetables, and a bold peppery kick. Perfect for a weeknight dinner or a special meal, this recipe is both easy to prepare and packed with vibrant flavors.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams beef (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large onion (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 green bell pepper (diced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (diced)
  • 7 cloves garlic (crushed and coarsely chopped)
  • 3 cm ginger (thinly sliced)
  • 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Salt and white pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons coarsely ground black pepper
  • A small amount of cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef:

    • Thinly slice the beef and marinate it with soy sauce and a small portion of the coarsely chopped garlic. Allow it to soak for a few minutes to enhance the flavors.
  2. Sauté Aromatics:

    • Heat a small amount of oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Add the coarsely chopped onion, sliced ginger, and remaining garlic. Sauté until they release their aromatic flavors and become fragrant.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Add the marinated beef to the pan. Stir-fry until the beef changes color and is cooked through.
  4. Add Sauces and Seasonings:

    • Pour in the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, and white pepper. Stir well to coat the beef evenly with the sauces.
  5. Simmer:

    • Add approximately 4 tablespoons of water to the pan. Stir again, allowing the mixture to simmer for a few minutes. Season with salt to taste.
  6. Incorporate Vegetables:

    • Add the diced green and red bell peppers to the pan. Continue cooking until the liquid reduces and the vegetables are tender.
  7. Finish with Black Pepper:

    • Sprinkle the coarsely ground black pepper over the beef and vegetables. Mix thoroughly to ensure the pepper is evenly distributed.
  8. Serve:

    • Transfer the Black Pepper Beef to a serving plate. Enjoy hot with steamed rice or as a standalone dish.

This dish brings together a harmonious blend of tender beef and crisp vegetables, all enveloped in a rich, peppery sauce. Perfect for those who enjoy a little heat and a lot of flavor in their meals.
