Savory Black Pepper Beef Stir-Fry

Sapi Lada Hitam (Black Pepper Beef)

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef (thinly sliced)
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 cm ginger
  • 2 large red chilies
  • 3 large green chilies
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (dissolved in water)
  • 4 tablespoons water
  • Cooking oil (as needed)

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef: Thinly slice the beef and marinate it for 1 hour in a mixture of 2 tablespoons oyster sauce, 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon salt.

  2. Prepare the Vegetables: Remove the seeds from the red and green chilies, and slice them into thin strips. Slice the onion into medium-thick rings. Crush the garlic and chop it finely.

  3. Cook the Aromatics: Heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the garlic and onion until fragrant.

  4. Add the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the pan and stir-fry until it changes color.

  5. Add Chilies: Once the beef has changed color, add the sliced red and green chilies to the pan.

  6. Make the Sauce: Pour in the water and cornstarch mixture, then add additional oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, and sugar to taste.

  7. Simmer and Serve: Allow the dish to simmer until the beef is tender and the flavors have melded together. Serve hot.
