Semur Ayam Tempe

Ingredients

Chicken 250 grams
Coconut Milk (Kara) 1 small package
Tempe 1 block
Ginger 1 piece
Garlic 2 cloves
Shallots 5 shallots
Chilies 10 whole
Sweet Spicy Soy Sauce to taste
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste
Seasoning to taste
Pepper to taste
Water approximately 500 ml

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing the garlic and shallots, then crushing the ginger and leaving the chilies whole. Heat oil in a pan and sauté these aromatics until fragrant.
  2. Clean and cut the chicken into pieces. Add the chicken and tempe, which has been diced, into the pan with the sautéed aromatics.
  3. Stir-fry until the chicken turns pale, then pour in the water along with the sweet spicy soy sauce, salt, pepper, seasoning, and a bit of sugar (avoid adding too much sugar as the coconut milk is already slightly sweet). Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  4. Allow the mixture to cook until the water has reduced slightly and the chicken is cooked through, letting the spices penetrate the meat.
  5. Finally, add the coconut milk, taste once more, and let it simmer until the mixture reaches a gentle boil.
