Beef Rice with Savory Garlic Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 serving of cooked rice
  • 75 grams beef sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 1 small piece of ginger
  • 1 stalk lemongrass, white part only, bruised
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • A pinch of salt
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon margarine
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 lettuce leaves

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Marinade:

    • Finely chop the garlic and ginger. In a mixing bowl, combine the garlic, ginger, sweet soy sauce, soy sauce, margarine, salt, sugar, black pepper, and cornstarch. Add the sliced beef and mix well to coat. Let the mixture marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Cook the Beef:

    • Heat the cooking oil and sesame oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the marinated beef along with the marinade to the skillet. Stir-fry until the beef changes color and starts to brown.
  3. Add Water and Onion:

    • Pour in the hot water and stir well. Allow the mixture to simmer until the liquid reduces and the beef is tender. Add the sliced onion and cook until it softens and becomes slightly translucent. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Turn off the heat.
  4. Assemble the Dish:

    • Place the cooked rice in a bowl. Top with the lettuce leaves and spoon the beef mixture over the rice. Serve hot and enjoy!
