Ingredients:
- 1 cup hot water
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1/2 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1/2 to 1-inch pieces
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon Grey Poupon mustard
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/4 cup dry red wine
- 1 shallot, minced
- 1 tablespoon capers
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 3 tablespoons cold water
Instructions:
-
Begin by dissolving the beef bouillon cube in hot water. Set aside.
-
While the bouillon dissolves, prepare the kielbasa sausage by cutting it into 1/2 to 1-inch pieces.
-
Heat a pan over medium heat and add olive oil. Once the oil is heated, add the sausage pieces to the pan.
-
Allow the sausage to cook, turning the pieces occasionally to ensure even browning on all sides. This process, known as braising, enhances the flavor and texture of the meat.
-
In a separate bowl, combine the dissolved bouillon, Grey Poupon mustard, honey, dry red wine, minced shallot, and capers. This flavorful mixture will serve as the base for the sauce.
-
Once the sausage is well-braised, typically after 7 to 10 minutes, increase the heat to medium-high and pour the prepared sauce mixture into the pan.
-
Allow the sauce to simmer alongside the sausage for an additional 7 to 10 minutes, allowing it to reduce slightly and intensify in flavor.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Gradually pour this mixture into the pan while stirring continuously. This will thicken the sauce to the desired consistency.
-
Let the sausage and sauce simmer together for an additional 5-7 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld perfectly.
-
Once the sauce reaches your desired consistency and the sausage is heated through, it’s ready to be served immediately.
Enjoy your flavorful German sausage with mustard caper sauce!
