Stir-Fried Ground Beef with Potato and Carrots (Putren Wortel Cah Sapi Giling)

Ingredients:

  • 1 potato, diced
  • 2 carrots, sliced diagonally
  • 150 grams putren (tamarind leaves), sliced diagonally
  • 150 grams ground beef
  • 1/4 onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed and finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • 60 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in a little water
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar to taste
  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Sautรฉ the chopped onion, garlic, and ground pepper until fragrant and softened.
  2. Add the ground beef to the pan. Stir well and cook until the beef changes color.
  3. Incorporate the diced potato, sliced carrots, and putren into the pan. Stir everything together to combine.
  4. Once the vegetables are partially cooked, pour in the water to help them cook through. Add the oyster sauce, sugar, and salt to taste. Stir well and let it simmer.
  5. When the vegetables are almost tender, add the dissolved cornstarch to the pan. Stir continuously until the mixture starts to bubble and thicken.
  6. Once the sauce has thickened and the vegetables are cooked to your liking, remove the pan from heat.
  7. Serve the dish warm, either on its own or with steamed rice. Enjoy the flavorful combination of tender beef, crisp vegetables, and savory sauce!
