Simple Gyu Tan (Beef Tongue) Recipe
Ingredients:
- 150-200 grams of prepared beef tongue
- 1.5 tablespoons mirin
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/2 teaspoon shoyu (soy sauce)
- Sweet soy sauce, to taste
- Salt, to taste (as shoyu is already salty)
- 1 tablespoon butter, for sautéing
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- Optional Toppings:
- King mushrooms, sliced thinly
- Thinly sliced green onions
Instructions:

-
Marinate the Beef Tongue:
- In a bowl, mix the mirin, sesame oil, and shoyu. Place the prepared beef tongue into the mixture, ensuring it’s well coated. Let it marinate for 30-45 minutes to absorb the flavors.
-
Prepare the Ingredients:
- Heat the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the crushed garlic and sauté until it releases a fragrant aroma.
- Add the thinly sliced king mushrooms to the skillet. Cook until they start to soften and become slightly translucent.
-
Cook the Beef Tongue:
- Add the marinated beef tongue and the marinade to the skillet with the mushrooms. Stir well to combine. If you prefer a bit of sauce or gravy, you can add a splash of water to the skillet.
- Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the beef tongue is heated through and the flavors meld together. Adjust the seasoning with sweet soy sauce and salt to taste.
-
Serve:
- Transfer the cooked beef tongue mixture onto a plate, ideally served over a bed of warm rice. Garnish with thinly sliced green onions.
