HAM TURNOVERS (USDA) ๐Ÿฅ

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups diced ham
  • 1 1/3 cups tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon parsley flakes
  • 1 1/3 teaspoons pepper

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 6 1/2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ham Mixture:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the diced ham, onion, tomato sauce, parsley flakes, pepper, dry mustard, and horseradish. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed. Set aside.
  2. Prepare the Pastry Dough:

    • On a lightly floured surface, roll out each dough ball into a circle approximately 5 inches in diameter and 1/8-inch thick.
    • Place about 3 tablespoons of the prepared ham mixture onto one half of each pastry circle.
    • Fold the other half of the circle over the ham mixture, forming a turnover.
    • Seal the edges by pressing them together with the tines of a fork.
  4. Baking Instructions:

    • Preheat the oven to 400ยฐF (hot).
    • Place the turnovers on a baking sheet and bake for 30 minutes or until they are lightly browned.

    • Serve the turnovers hot with Mushroom Sauce or Vegetable Sauce.
  6. Freezing Instructions:

    • To freeze the turnovers, place six turnovers at a time in a single layer on freezer wrap.

    • Freeze the turnovers immediately for 10-12 hours before stacking them in the freezer.
  7. Reheating Frozen Turnovers:

    • Remove the turnovers from the freezer wrap and place them on a baking sheet.
