Indulge in a delightful fusion of flavors with this Special Beef Soun recipe, a savory and satisfying dish perfect for any occasion. This recipe combines tender beef with soft soun noodles in a rich and aromatic sauce, showcasing the vibrant essence of Indonesian cuisine. Here’s how you can recreate this flavorful dish at home:

Ingredients

  • 2 bundles soun (bean threads)
  • 2 shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 7 bird’s eye chilies
  • A sufficient amount of beef (cut into small pieces)
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as needed
  • Thinly sliced galangal
  • 3 bay leaves
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • A small amount of palm sugar (gula jawa)
  • Cooking oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Soun:

    • Soak the soun in hot water until softened. Drain well and set aside.
  2. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • Finely chop the shallots, garlic, and bird’s eye chilies.
  3. Cook the Beef:

    • Cut the pre-cooked beef into small pieces.
  4. Sauté the Aromatics:

    • Heat a small amount of cooking oil in a pan. Sauté the chopped shallots, garlic, chilies, sliced galangal, and bay leaves until fragrant.
  5. Combine Ingredients:

    • Add the beef and water to the pan. Stir well.
  6. Season the Dish:

    • Incorporate the sweet soy sauce, a bit of palm sugar, and salt. Allow it to cook for a short while.
  7. Add the Soun:

    • Gently stir in the softened soun. Mix thoroughly until the liquid is absorbed and the soun is well combined with the beef and seasonings.
  8. Serve:

    • Once the soun has absorbed most of the liquid and is heated through, remove from heat and serve.

Enjoy your Special Beef Soun, a dish that brings together tender beef and flavorful noodles in a harmonious blend of tastes and textures.
