Ayam Masak Tahu dan Jamur (Chicken with Tofu and Mushrooms)

This delightful Indonesian dish combines tender chicken, savory tofu, and earthy mushrooms in a flavorful broth, accented with fresh vegetables and a touch of seasoning. Perfect for a comforting meal, this recipe brings together simple ingredients for a satisfying taste experience.

Ingredients:

  • 1 chicken thigh (cut into cubes)
  • 1/4 block of firm tofu (cut into cubes)
  • 1 garlic clove (finely chopped)
  • 1 scallion (chopped coarsely)
  • 1/2 medium carrot (diced and briefly blanched)
  • 1/4 tomato (diced)
  • 1 champignon mushroom (sliced thinly, stems removed)
  • 1 free-range egg (beaten)
  • Salt, pepper, and soy sauce to taste
  • 150 ml chicken stock (homemade is preferable)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Begin by preparing all your ingredients. Cut the chicken thigh into bite-sized cubes and dice the tofu. Finely chop the garlic, coarsely chop the scallion, and dice the tomato. Slice the champignon mushroom thinly and blanch the diced carrot briefly until just tender.

  2. Sauté Aromatics:
Heat a splash of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and sauté until fragrant. Then, add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they start to release their juices and become slightly golden.

  3. Add Vegetables:
Toss in the chopped scallion, blanched carrot, and diced tomato. Continue to sauté the mixture, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  4. Cook the Chicken:
Add the cubed chicken to the pan. Sauté until the chicken is fully cooked and browned on all sides.

  5. Add Stock and Tofu:
Pour in the chicken stock and bring to a simmer. Gently stir in the cubed tofu, allowing the mixture to come to a boil. Let it simmer until the tofu is heated through and the flavors are well combined. Season with salt, pepper, and a splash of soy sauce to taste.

  6. Finish and Serve:
Stir in the beaten egg, letting it gently cook in the hot broth, forming a delicate ribbon-like texture. Adjust seasoning if necessary.

  7. Serve:
Once everything is well incorporated and heated through, your Ayam Masak Tahu dan Jamur is ready to be served. Enjoy this comforting dish with steamed rice or noodles.

Enjoy your meal!
