Indonesian Braised Tilapia in Fermented Soybean Sauce (Tauco Ikan Nila)

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg tilapia fish
  • 2 lime fruits
  • 1/2 kg cooking oil

Sliced Ingredients:

  • 1/4 green chili peppers
  • 7 shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 cm ginger
  • 1 tomato (medium size)

Additional Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp tauco (fermented soybean paste)
  • 8 red chili peppers (blended)
  • Salt, to taste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • A little water
  • Optional: Seasoning powder (as desired)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare all ingredients. Clean the tilapia fish and rub with lime juice. Fry the fish until golden brown, reducing the amount of oil used. Set aside.

  2. In the remaining oil, sauté shallots, garlic, and ginger until fragrant. Add green chili peppers, tauco, blended red chili peppers, and tomato. Stir and add a little water. Cook until the tomatoes are slightly wilted.

  3. Season with sugar, salt, and optional seasoning powder to taste. Adjust seasoning as needed.

  4. Taste and adjust the flavors accordingly. Turn off the heat.

  5. Serve the tauco fish hot with steamed rice.
