(Minced Beef and Potato Stew)

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams minced beef
  • 1 large potato, peeled and diced
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, finely chopped
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or margarine
  • 300 ml chicken broth or water
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce or soy sauce
  • Salt, nutmeg, pepper, and sugar to taste
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup

Instructions:

  1. Sauté Aromatics: Heat 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter or margarine in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped garlic and thinly sliced onion, cooking until they become fragrant and translucent.

  2. Cook the Beef: Add the minced beef to the skillet. Stir occasionally until the beef changes color and is well browned. Season with salt, nutmeg, pepper, and sugar. Mix in the sweet soy sauce and oyster sauce, stirring to combine thoroughly.

  3. Simmer with Broth: Pour in the chicken broth or water, and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer.

  4. Add Potatoes: Add the diced potato to the skillet. Continue to cook until the potatoes are tender and the flavors are well integrated, and the sauce has thickened.

  5. Incorporate Tomato Ketchup: Stir in the tomato ketchup, blending it into the mixture.

  6. Finish with Tomato: Add the chopped tomato to the skillet and give it a gentle stir. Allow the stew to cook for a few more minutes until the tomato is slightly softened.

  7. Adjust Seasoning: Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or sugar as needed.

  8. Serve: Remove from heat and serve warm. This dish is perfect for a comforting meal.

Note: For a variation, you can pre-cook the potatoes until slightly tender or fry them before adding them to the stew for a different texture.
