Servings: 8 Yip Yips

Description:

These Yip Yips are reminiscent of the classic Sloppy Joes but hold a special place in my heart as my mom’s signature dish from my childhood. Packed with savory flavors and a hint of sweetness, they make for a hearty and satisfying meal. Perfect for lunch or a quick snack, these Yip Yips are sure to become a family favorite.

Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
1 lb Ground beef
1 Celery stalk, diced
1 Onion, diced
1 can (8 oz) Tomato sauce
1/4 cup Catsup
2 tbsp Brown sugar
2 tbsp Vinegar
2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp Dry mustard
To taste Salt
To taste Pepper
Optional Cheese, for topping

Instructions:

  1. Brown ground beef: In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks until it’s crumbly and no longer pink. Once cooked, drain any excess grease.

  2. Add vegetables and sauces: To the skillet with the cooked beef, add in the diced celery, diced onion, tomato sauce, catsup, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.

  3. Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer gently for about 1 hour, or until the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded together nicely. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.

  4. Serve: Once the Yip Yips are ready, spoon the mixture onto hamburger buns, and if desired, top with a slice of cheese for an extra creamy touch.

  5. Enjoy: Serve these delicious Yip Yips alongside your favorite sides or simply enjoy them on their own for a comforting and satisfying meal.
