Instructions
Step | Description |
---|---|
1 | In a 6-quart stockpot, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat until shimmering. |
2 | Add the beef round steak to the pot and brown it on all sides until golden, about 5-7 minutes per side. |
3 | Stir in the mushroom soup, onion soup mix, sliced mushrooms, and 1 ½ cups of water until well combined. |
4 | Cover the pot and let the mixture simmer over low heat for 45 minutes or until the meat is tender, stirring occasionally. |
5 | In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and remaining ¼ cup of water until smooth. |
6 | Gradually pour the cornstarch mixture into the gravy, stirring constantly to prevent lumps from forming. |
7 | Continue to cook the gravy over medium heat until it comes to a boil and thickens to your desired consistency, about 5-7 minutes. |
8 | Once the gravy has thickened, remove the pot from the heat and let it cool slightly before serving. |
9 | Serve the Beef & Gravy hot over rice and with biscuits on the side for a comforting and satisfying meal. |
Tips & Serving Suggestions
- For added flavor, you can brown the beef in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot, which will help achieve a nice sear.
- Feel free to customize the dish by adding your favorite vegetables, such as carrots or peas, during the last 15 minutes of cooking.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage. Simply reheat in the microwave or on the stovetop until heated through.
