Yield: 18-20 slices

Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
2 3/4 cups Flour
1 tsp Baking powder
1 tbsp Sugar
1/2 tsp Salt
1 1/2 tsp Dry mustard
1 1/4 cups Cheddar cheese
2 Green onions
2 tbsp Basil
1 cup Beer
1 Onion
1 Sesame seeds
1 Sunflower seeds

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, salt, and dry mustard.

  2. Add Cheese and Aromatics: Stir in 1 cup of cheddar cheese, finely chopped green onions, and basil into the dry ingredients mixture until evenly distributed.

  3. Incorporate Beer: Pour in the beer and stir the mixture just until blended, ensuring no dry spots remain.

  4. Prepare Loaf Pan: Spoon the batter into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan, spreading it evenly.

  5. Layer Onions and Seeds: Lightly dredge thin onion rings in some flour and arrange them barely overlapping on top of the batter. Sprinkle sesame seeds and sunflower seeds on top of the batter for added texture and flavor.

  6. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) in preparation for baking.

  7. Bake: Place the prepared loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Add Cheese Topping: Once the loaf is hot out of the oven, sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the top, allowing it to melt slightly.

  9. Cool and Serve: Let the bread stand in the pan to cool for about 15 minutes. Then, carefully remove it from the pan and transfer it to a cooling rack to finish cooling completely. Once cooled, slice the bread with a sharp serrated knife and serve.

This Onion Beer Bread is best enjoyed fresh but can also be stored in the freezer for longer preservation. Enjoy its savory goodness with your favorite dishes or as a satisfying snack any time of the day! 🍴🥖
