Ayam Paprika with Oyster Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into desired pieces, lightly fried and set aside
  • 1 green bell pepper
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 1 large onion
  • 6 cloves garlic, crushed and finely chopped
  • 4 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Water, as needed
  • Salt and sugar, to taste
  • Cooking oil, for sautéing

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Vegetables and Chicken:

    • Begin by preparing the vegetables. Slice the green and red bell peppers into strips. Finely chop the onion and crush the garlic cloves.
  2. Sauté Aromatics:

    • Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic and onion. Sauté until the garlic is fragrant and the onion becomes translucent.
  3. Create the Sauce:

    • Pour in the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, sesame oil, and black pepper. Stir the mixture well to combine the ingredients, allowing the sauces to meld together.
  4. Cook the Chicken:

    • Add the lightly fried chicken pieces to the pan. Stir gently to coat the chicken with the sauce mixture. Cook for a few minutes until the chicken changes color.
  5. Add Liquid and Simmer:

    • Pour in enough water to cover the chicken partially. Bring to a gentle simmer, ensuring the chicken is cooked through. Adjust the heat to maintain a steady simmer.
  6. Incorporate Vegetables:

    • Once the chicken is cooked, add the sliced bell peppers to the pan. Season with salt and sugar to taste. Stir well and let the dish cook for a few more minutes, allowing the peppers to soften slightly and the flavors to blend.
  7. Final Adjustments:

    • Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary. If the sauce needs more flavor, add a pinch more salt or sugar as preferred.
  8. Serve:

    • Once everything is cooked to your liking, transfer the dish to a serving platter. Enjoy your Ayam Paprika with Oyster Sauce hot, served over steamed rice or noodles.

This delightful dish combines the richness of oyster sauce with the crispness of bell peppers, creating a balanced and flavorful meal that’s sure to please.
