Ikan Bawal in Tauco Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1/2 kg pomfret fish (ikan bawal), cleaned, seasoned with salt and lime juice
- 5 pieces of tofu, cubed and fried
- 1 tablespoon tauco (fermented soybeans)
- 8 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 cm ginger, crushed
- 8 bird’s eye chilies, sliced diagonally
- 2 red chili peppers, sliced diagonally
- 3 stalks green onions, sliced diagonally
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch, dissolved in 800 ml water
- 3 tablespoons chili sauce
Steps:
-
Sauté Aromatics: In a pan, heat a little oil and sauté the crushed garlic, ginger, and sliced chilies until they are aromatic and slightly softened.
-
Add Tauco: Stir in the tauco and cook until its fragrance is released, allowing the flavors to meld.
-
Incorporate Cornstarch Mixture: Add the cornstarch mixture and bring to a simmer. This will help thicken the sauce.
-
Finish the Sauce: Mix in the sliced green onions and chili sauce. Continue cooking until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
-
Combine with Fish: Turn off the heat and pour the tauco sauce over the pre-seasoned and fried pomfret fish. Ensure the fish is well-coated with the flavorful sauce.
-
Final Touches: Note that no additional salt is added to this dish, as tauco already provides sufficient seasoning.
Enjoy your Ikan Bawal in Tauco Sauce, a delightful blend of savory, spicy, and tangy flavors, perfect for a hearty meal!
