Ingredients
- 1/2 lb lean ground beef
- 1/2 lb ground pork
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1-2 tbsp parsley, finely chopped
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1-2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup beer
- 1/2 cup ginger ale
- 1 package onion soup mix
- Optional: sliced mushrooms
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the lean ground beef, ground pork, water, breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, and dried oregano. Mix well until evenly combined.
- Shape the mixture into rounded balls about the size of your palm, then gently flatten them to resemble hamburgers, but not as flat.
- Roll each steak in flour, ensuring it’s coated evenly. Pat the flour onto the steak to help it stick.
- Heat the extra virgin olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the steaks and brown quickly on all sides. The goal here is not to fully cook the steaks, just to seal in the flavors.
- Remove any excess grease from the skillet, if necessary.
- Pour in the beer, ginger ale, and onion soup mix (and sliced mushrooms if using). Be sure to scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the steaks simmer in the liquid for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are tender. Cover the skillet with a lid to keep the moisture in.
- If you prefer a thicker gravy, combine 2 tablespoons of flour with 2 tablespoons of cold water in a jar with a lid. Shake vigorously until smooth, then pour the mixture into the skillet with the steaks.
- Stir the gravy until it reaches your desired consistency. If the gravy seems too light in color, you can add a splash of gravy master and a few grinds of black pepper for extra flavor.
- Once the steaks are tender and the gravy is just right, remove from heat and serve hot alongside your favorite sides.
This Easy-Does-It Salisbury Steak recipe is sure to become a family favorite. With its simple preparation and delicious flavors, it’s a winner every time! Enjoy 😊🍽️
