1 | Cook your ground meat until completely done. Ensure the Italian sausage is thoroughly cooked and crumbled. Set aside to cool slightly. |
2 | Saute mushrooms in butter over high heat, about 3 minutes. In a skillet, melt the butter over high heat. Add the mushroom caps and sauté until they are tender and slightly browned. Remove from heat and allow to cool. |
3 | Beat cream cheese until smooth. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese until it’s creamy and smooth. |
4 | Stir in your cooked ground meat. Add the cooked Italian sausage to the cream cheese. Use at least 1/2 cup of the ground meat, and if desired, add more for extra meatiness. Mix well to combine. |
5 | Stuff each cap with a little of the meat & cheese mixture; arrange on a baking sheet. Take each mushroom cap and fill it with a spoonful of the sausage and cheese mixture. Arrange the stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet, making sure they are evenly spaced. |
6 | Place under a heated broiler until bubbling. Preheat your broiler. Place the baking sheet of stuffed mushrooms under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly, about 2-3 minutes. Keep a close eye to prevent burning. |
7 | Variations: For a seafood twist, substitute the sausage meat with 1/4 cup chopped crab meat and 1/4 cup chopped cooked baby shrimp seasoned with Cajun spice or similar. Experiment with different flavors! Another option is to use the cheese and meat mixture as a dip for crackers. Enjoy it in multiple ways! |
Notes:
These stuffed mushrooms are incredibly versatile and can be customized to suit your taste preferences. Whether you stick with the classic Italian sausage filling or try out the seafood variation, they’re sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Serve them up at your next gathering, and watch as they disappear within minutes! 🎉
