Simple Sea Fish with Tofu in Ground Spices

Ingredients

  • 250 grams fresh sea fish (your choice)
  • 5 pieces salted tofu, cut in half
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Ground Spice Mix

  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 5 shallots
  • 5 red curly chilies
  • 10 bird’s eye chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fried shrimp paste
  • A small amount of tamarind
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 packet chicken seasoning (Masako)
  • 750 ml water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Clean the fish thoroughly, and if large, cut into pieces. Squeeze lime juice over the fish to remove any fishy odor.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a mortar and pestle, grind the garlic, shallots, red curly chilies, and bird’s eye chilies until smooth.

  3. Sauté the Spices: Heat a pan and sauté the ground spice paste until fragrant.

  4. Cook the Mixture: Add the water to the pan and bring to a boil. Once boiling, gently add the fish and cook until the fish is fully cooked through.

  5. Add the Tofu: Carefully add the salted tofu pieces to the pot. Taste the broth and adjust seasoning if necessary.

  6. Garnish and Serve: If using, sprinkle with chopped green onions before serving. Enjoy your dish hot!
