🍽️ Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Melt half of the butter in a large skillet over medium-low to medium heat.
  3. Add onions and cook until tender and lightly browned, approximately 25 minutes. Remove onions and butter from the pan, placing them in a large mixing bowl.
  4. In the same skillet, melt the remaining butter. Add apples and cook quickly over high heat until lightly browned but not mushy. Remove apples and butter from the pan, adding them to the mixing bowl with the onions.
  5. Return the skillet to the burner, add sausage, and crumble as you cook over medium heat until lightly browned. Once done, remove the sausage with a slotted spoon and add it to the mixing bowl. Reserve drippings for basting later.
  6. Combine the remaining ingredients in the mixing bowl, gently mixing them together.
  7. For stuffing a turkey, cool the mixture completely in the refrigerator first. If preparing as a separate dressing, spoon the mixture into a large casserole dish (13 x 9 or slightly larger). Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30-45 minutes at 325 degrees Fahrenheit, basting occasionally with cooking juices from the turkey or reserved sausage fat if needed.
  8. Uncover the pan for the last 10 minutes of cooking to brown the top.
  9. Serve hot or warm.

📝 Notes:

  • Adjust the moistness of the stuffing to your preference by adding additional chicken broth as necessary.
  • For individual stuffing muffins, add one egg to the mix before baking to help them keep their shape.

With its blend of savory sausage, sweet apples, tart cranberries, crunchy pecans, and aromatic herbs, this Cornbread, Sausage, Apple, & Pecan Stuffing promises to elevate any holiday feast or special occasion meal to a new level of deliciousness!
