Description:

Another gem from my cherished family recipe book, gifted to me on my wedding day. Though I’ve yet to prepare this dish, its comforting flavors seem tailor-made for chilly evenings or those spirited Sundays filled with football frenzy! 🏈

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 pound ground round (or any ground meat of your choice)
  • 2 cans (15 ounces each) pork and beans
  • 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (4 ounces) diced green chilies

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients:

    • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
    • Dice the onion.
    • Drain and rinse the kidney beans.
  2. Saute Onion and Ground Meat:

    • In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter.
    • Add the diced onion and ground round to the skillet.
    • Cook until the meat is browned and the onion is tender.
  3. Add Flavorful Elements:

    • Once the meat and onion are cooked, sprinkle in the seasoning salt.
    • Pour in the Worcestershire sauce for a savory kick.
    • Stir in the brown sugar, adding a hint of sweetness.
    • Introduce the ketchup, enhancing the depth of flavors.
  4. Incorporate Beans and Chilies:

    • Gently fold in the pork and beans, ensuring they’re well combined.
    • Carefully incorporate the kidney beans, maintaining their integrity.
    • Finally, add the diced green chilies for a touch of heat and complexity.
  5. Bake to Perfection:

    • Transfer the bean mixture to a baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
    • Place the dish, uncovered, into the preheated oven.
    • Bake for 40 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the beans to become deliciously tender.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Once baked to perfection, remove the dish from the oven.
    • Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving.
    • Dish out generous portions into bowls, savoring the aroma that fills the air.
    • Pair with your favorite accompaniments, such as crusty bread or a fresh green salad.
    • Gather your loved ones around the table and indulge in this hearty and comforting meal.
