Spinach Special Strata Recipe 🍳

Ingredients:

1/2 mushroom
1/2 fresh spinach
1/2 green onion
1 pimiento
1 pepper
1/4 eggs
1/2 cream cheese
6 milk
4 butter
1 flour
2 milk

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:

    • Cut or tear the bread into 1″ pieces and place half into a 9″ baking dish coated with nonstick coating spray.
    • Cut the cream cheese into small pieces and distribute over the bread.
  2. Cooking the Filling:

    • In a heated nonstick skillet, add the crumbled ground beef and sliced mushrooms. Cook until the beef is fully cooked and the mushrooms are nicely browned. Drain off any excess fat.
    • Add the fresh spinach, chopped green onions, diced pimiento, garlic salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook for an additional minute, stirring continuously. Once cooked, set aside to cool.
  3. Preparing the Egg Mixture:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the eggs and milk. Mix well to create a creamy mixture.
  4. Layering the Strata:

    • Spread the cooked meat and spinach mixture evenly over the bread and cream cheese in the baking dish.
    • Top with the remaining half of the bread pieces.
  5. Assembly:

    • Pour the milk and egg mixture over all the layers in the baking dish.
    • Cover the dish and chill it overnight in the refrigerator.
  6. Baking:

    • Remove the strata from the fridge approximately 30 minutes before baking.
    • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake the strata covered for 30 minutes.
    • Remove the cover and bake for an additional 30 minutes or until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. Preparing the Sauce:

    • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour until well combined.
    • Gradually add the hot milk to the mixture, stirring constantly until it begins to bubble. Continue cooking for about 1 minute, stirring continuously.
    • Add the salt, white pepper, and nutmeg to the sauce, then remove it from the heat.
  8. Serving:

    • Cut the Spinach Special Strata into serving portions and serve with the prepared sauce on the side.
