Tumis Broccoli and Tofu

Ingredients:

  • 4 blocks of firm tofu, cut into cubes
  • Fresh broccoli florets, enough to your liking
  • 4 scallions, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red onion, finely sliced
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Salt, 1 tablespoon
  • Oyster sauce, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • Cooking oil, as needed
  • Water, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the tofu cubes until they turn golden brown and crispy. Once done, remove them from the pan and set aside.

  2. Prepare the Broccoli: Rinse the broccoli florets in salted water. For quicker cooking, you can blanch the broccoli by dipping it in boiling water for a minute or so, then transfer it to an ice bath to stop the cooking process. This step ensures the broccoli is tender yet retains a vibrant green color.

  3. Chop the Vegetables: Dice the tomato, finely slice the red onion, and chop the scallions.

  4. Sauté the Aromatics: In a large skillet or wok, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, red onion, and chopped scallions. Sauté until they become fragrant and the onions turn translucent.

  5. Cook the Broccoli: Add a small amount of water to the pan and then add the broccoli florets. Cook until the broccoli is tender but still crisp.

  6. Combine Ingredients: Once the broccoli is cooked to your liking, add the fried tofu cubes back into the pan. Stir well to combine with the broccoli and aromatics.

  7. Season the Dish: Pour in the oyster sauce, add sugar, salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir everything together and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.

  8. Finish and Serve: Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Once the dish is ready, transfer it to a serving plate.
