Indulge in the rich flavors of Bacem Tahu Tempe, a delightful Indonesian dish featuring marinated tofu and tempeh, known for its savory-sweet profile and aromatic spices. Perfect for a family meal or as part of a larger feast, this recipe will elevate your culinary repertoire.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Tofu 1 block
Tempeh 1 block
Shallots 7
Garlic 4 cloves
Brown Sugar 1 piece
Coriander 1 tsp
Tamarind 2 pieces
Salt 1 tsp
Soy Sauce 2 tbsp
Seasoning (Masako) 1 tsp
Galangal (crushed) 1 piece

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu and Tempeh: Start by slicing the tofu and tempeh into manageable pieces. Heat oil in a pan and fry the tofu and tempeh until they are golden brown and crispy. Set aside.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a blender, combine the shallots, garlic, brown sugar, coriander, tamarind, and salt. Blend until you achieve a smooth paste.

  3. Cook the Spice Paste: In a large pan, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the spice paste and sauté until fragrant, which should take about 2-3 minutes.

  4. Combine and Simmer: Pour in water and soy sauce, stirring well. Once it reaches a gentle simmer, add the fried tofu and tempeh. Let it cook on low heat until the sauce thickens and reduces, allowing the flavors to meld beautifully.

  5. Serve: Once cooked, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Serve warm with steamed rice for an ultimate comfort meal.

Enjoy your Bacem Tahu Tempe, a dish that embodies love and tradition in every bite!
